Terms of Service

Last updated July 8, 2026. The rules governing your use of Skala's services.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Skala, Inc.'s ("Skala") fraud scoring API, dashboard, and related services. Please read them carefully.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Skala's API, dashboard, or related services (collectively, the "Services"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you are using the Services on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

Description of Services

Skala provides a real-time fraud scoring API that evaluates events (signups, logins, checkouts) on a 0–100 risk scale and returns an allow, step_up, or block decision. The Services include:

  • Risk Scoring API (POST /v1/score)
  • Outcome Reporting API (POST /v1/outcome)
  • Webhook delivery for block decisions
  • Dashboard for event monitoring, score visualization, and API key management
  • Developer documentation and SDKs

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Services at any time with reasonable notice.

Account and API Keys

To use the Services, you must create an account and obtain API keys. You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your API keys secure and confidential
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use
  • Ensuring your use complies with applicable laws

We may rotate or revoke API keys that we reasonably believe have been compromised.

Usage Limits and Billing

Your plan includes a monthly allotment of scored events:

  • Free: 10,000 events/month
  • Starter: 100,000 events/month
  • Growth: 1,000,000 events/month
  • Enterprise: Custom limits

Overage is billed at $0.0005 per event. Billing is processed monthly via Stripe. You are responsible for all taxes associated with your use of the Services.

We may apply a hard limit to your account if you exceed your plan's allowance by more than 2x. You will be notified before any hard limit is enforced.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Services for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract our scoring models or signal weights
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute Skala's risk scores without our written consent
  • Use the Services to score events for third parties without an enterprise agreement
  • Circumvent rate limits, billing controls, or API key restrictions
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Services or their infrastructure

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access for violations of this policy.

Intellectual Property

Skala retains all rights, title, and interest in the Services, including all software, models, algorithms, documentation, and trademarks. These Terms do not grant you any right to use Skala's name, logo, or branding without prior written consent.

You retain all rights to the data you submit to the API. We do not claim ownership over your event data or metadata.

Service Level and Availability

We target 99.99% API uptime measured monthly. Enterprise customers receive a formal SLA with uptime guarantees and service credits.

The Services are provided "as is" for free-tier and standard-plan customers without any warranty of uninterrupted availability. We are not liable for downtime, data loss, or business interruption beyond what is specified in your SLA.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • Skala's total liability shall not exceed the fees you paid in the 12 months preceding the claim
  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages
  • We are not liable for losses resulting from your reliance on risk scores or decisions
  • We are not liable for third-party actions taken based on webhook payloads

You are solely responsible for how you implement and act on Skala's risk scores and decisions.

Termination

Either party may terminate this agreement at any time:

  • You may close your account via the dashboard or by contacting us
  • We may suspend or terminate your access for Terms violations with reasonable notice
  • Upon termination, your API keys are revoked immediately
  • Your data is retained per our retention policy (90 days for events, 30 days for graph edges) and then permanently deleted
  • Outstanding billing obligations survive termination

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or dashboard notification at least 30 days before they take effect. Your continued use of the Services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
